What must I Do to be Saved?

 Special Post for this Morning; Jody and I were talking when she was home for lunch, and the subject came up, for we sat in the gym sauna with a man we know, and he went on about being of a devout Catholic family. Anyway, my thoughts this monring for reasons only God knows this question came up can you tell me the question?

What must I Do to be Saved?

In the King James Version (KJV) there are two primary ways this question is answered. First, through Jesus' direct response to individuals asking "what must I do," and second, through the broader New Testament teaching on salvation as a gift received through faith. Take note of this; James 2:19 KJV Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble. Remember all devils and deamons are real, but only in spirit form, but they all were created by God and in His presence at one point did dwell,so they know God, far more intimately than you, or I, for they have seen Him in person.

1. The Commandments and Self-Surrender

When asked directly by a "rich young ruler" and a "certain lawyer" what they must do to inherit eternal life, Jesus pointed them toward the Law and total devotion:

Keep the Commandments: In Matthew 19:17-19, Jesus said, "if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments," specifically naming:

Thou shalt do no murder

Thou shalt not commit adultery

Thou shalt not steal

Thou shalt not bear false witness

Honour thy father and thy mother

Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself

Love God and Neighbor: In Luke 10:25-28, a lawyer correctly identified the "great" commandments as loving God with all one's heart, soul, strength, and mind, and one's neighbor as oneself. Jesus replied, "This do, and thou shalt live".

Then:

Forsake All and Follow Jesus: To the rich young man who claimed to have kept all the commandments, Jesus added, "If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor... and come and follow me" (Matthew 19:21).

2. Faith in Jesus Christ

While Jesus used the Law to show that human "doing" often falls short, the KJV emphasizes that eternal life is a gift from God to those who believe:

Believe on the Son: John 3:16 states, "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life".

The Gift of God: Romans 6:23 explains, "For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord".

Hear and Believe: In John 5:24, Jesus says, "He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life".

Be Born Again: Jesus told Nicodemus in John 3:3-5, "Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God".

3. Summary of Steps (Acts 16:30-31)

When a jailer famously asked, "Sirs, what must I do to be saved?", Paul and Silas gave this direct answer:

"Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved" (Acts 16:31).
