Call No Man Father
Call No Man Father
The phrase "call no man father" is found in Matthew 23:9 of the King James Version (KJV). Jesus instructed: "And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven."
Context and Meaning:
• Religious vs. Biological Titles: Jesus was not forbidding children from calling their biological parents "father" or canceling the command to honor one's parents. Instead, He was addressing the spiritual and religious hierarchy of the time.
• Avoiding Exaltation: He was condemning the habit of using titles of supreme religious authority (like "Rabbi," "Master," or "Father") in a way that placed spiritual leaders in a position of supreme reverence meant only for God.
• Protestant Views: Many Christians in this camp interpret the verse as a prohibition against using religious titles like "Father" or "Holy Father" for clergy (such as priests), emphasizing that God alone is the ultimate Spiritual Father.
• Catholic and Orthodox Views: Others use the title "Father" for priests as a sign of respect for their spiritual care, much like a biological father. According to Catholic Answers, human spiritual fatherhood is seen as an earthly reflection of the ultimate divine fatherhood.
So a thought. I will, in my opinion, not call any human man Father (of course, mine are dead), but still Dad, and many other terms of endearment are just as good?
With that said: I felt this also was of need.
In the King James Bible (KJV), the "intent of the heart" refers to a person's deepest, hidden motives, desires, and underlying thoughts rather than just their outward actions. Scripture emphasizes that human intentions are deeply known by God, even when they are hidden from others.
Hebrews 4:12: The Word of God is described as being a "discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart". This means that God’s truth exposes and evaluates the true, hidden motives behind why people do what they do.- Proverbs 16:2: This verse notes that while a person's actions or ways may seem right in their own eyes, "the LORD weigheth the spirits" (KJV) or evaluates the true motives and intent.
- Jeremiah 17:10: God declares that He searches the heart and tests the mind, ultimately to give every person according to the fruit of their doings.
The Condition of the Heart
The Bible presents the human heart as a complex control center for human life. It is described as being "deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked", meaning it has the capacity to fool even the person possessing it. Therefore, the Bible repeatedly cautions individuals to "keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life" (Proverbs 4:23), and encourages seeking a pure heart through divine renewal.
So as the verse also says; Where your treasures are found so is you heart, so who comes first in your life!!
It should always be God; our Father in Heaven!
