Devotional: “Looking Unto Jesus”
There are moments in life when everything feels overwhelming—our thoughts are crowded, our hearts are heavy, and peace seems far away. We try to fix things, sort things out, and carry burdens that were never meant for us to hold alone.
But Scripture gives us a simple, powerful instruction:
“Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith…” (Hebrews 12:2, KJV)
The answer is not found in striving harder—it is found in shifting our focus.
When we truly look to Jesus—not casually, but intentionally—we begin to see Him for who He is: full of grace, full of truth, and full of peace. And something remarkable happens. The things that once consumed us begin to lose their power.
Isaiah 26:3 reminds us:
“Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.”
Peace comes when our mind is stayed on Him.
When we fix our spiritual eyes on Christ, God quickens our soul—He revives us, strengthens us, and fills us with a calm that cannot be explained by circumstances. It becomes clear that this peace is not something we created, but something God has given.
Application: Living It So Others Can See
This kind of focus is not just for quiet moments—it should shape how we live our daily lives.
First, start your day by intentionally turning your thoughts to Jesus. Before the noise begins, take a moment to acknowledge Him, thank Him, and fix your heart on His presence.
Second, when worries arise—and they will—pause and redirect your mind. Instead of dwelling on the problem, quietly say, “Lord, I look to You.” This simple act builds a habit of trust.
When you look at and see Jesus, then how can you know or see anything else? God fills your heart and your mind, for He is always there, always near in every step we take in life.
Third, let your peace be visible. When others see calmness amid pressure, patience amid difficulty, and gratitude in all things, it becomes a testimony. They may not understand it at first, but they will notice something different.
Finally, keep a thankful heart. Recognize that every moment of peace is evidence that God has touched your life.
In doing this, your life becomes a reflection of Him.
And others will not just hear about Jesus—they will see Him in you.
The same was noted in Scripture in the book of Acts 11:26, where the people there were first called Christians, or like Christ! They saw clearly that these people had walked and talked with Jesus Himself, and they lived, walked, and became like Jesus, and were called Christina, so what do people see in you?
Closing Thought
When we truly look into His face, everything else fades—and what remains is peace, presence, and a heart fully alive in Him.
